Prepping For Tough Times Ahead - NOT A Nuclear Holocaust

This blog is not about preparing for doomsday or Armaggedon brought about by a nuclear holocaust or an asteroid impact. The chances of that are slim, and the likelihood of surviving either even slimmer. This blog is not about guns and ammunition and staving off hordes of post apocalypse zombies. This blog is not for those looking for information on how to survive a "Mad Max " type of scenario.

This blog is about practical information on how to prepare yourself, your family and your home for the looming financially tough times ahead and regular disasters like hurricanes, winter storms that take out the electricity, and other similar long or short-term emergencies.

If you live in a an area prone to natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes, etc., I strongly recommend that you take all the precautions recommended for your area. ( Please see the links for both Canada and USA HERE)

Most government disaster preparedness recommendations suggest you should be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hour. This short a time is frequently not nearly enough. Even winter storms have caused power outages that last two or three weeks, impassable roads, and resulting food and supply shortages in stores. Don't be caught short. At the very least, be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least a month.

But what about a financial crisis? An economic breakdown? A time when prices climb so high that you can't afford to buy food or other necessities?

That is the main focus of this blog. Prepping to survive with what you have stored and "put by" for the time when you can't run out to the supermarket or corner drugstore to get something for supper or to alleviate that nasty cold. You CAN not only survive during times of hardship, but to actually eat a healthy and nourishing diet. All it takes is some planning and preparing (prepping) on your part.

Do I think our world is going to fall apart due to inflation? Quite frankly, no. But it will be increasingly difficult to live "high off the hog" as so many North Americans have been doing for so long now. We need to stop being wasteful, start to learn to prepare our own meals instead of so many "take-outs" and using the micro wave to nuke ready made meals instead of cooking. Many of us need to learn, for the first time, the skills that our grandmothers, and in some cases mothers, took for granted. We need to stock our pantries and learn to preserve food and "put it by".

In the process we'll also become healthier as our bodies receive natural nutrition instead of chemicals, artificial flavorings, and a host of unnecessary and often dangerous additives.
